More Americans Are Going To The Library
Last year more Americans reported going to the library than going to the movies. In 2019 adults reported 10.5 trips to the library each year and half as many trips to the movies? Trailing behind these numbers are trips to a live sporting event, music and theater events, visiting national parks, museums, gambling and going to the zoo.
The Gallup poll was conducted to analyze leisure activities amongst different demographics.
Lower-income households are visiting libraries far more than higher-income households. This is likely due to the free resources and services that are provided. Libraries offer free wi-fi, access to computers and printers that students and job seekers frequent. In addition, libraries have started to expand the items that can be checked out far beyond books. Recently Money.com wrote an article of 200 things you can check out from a library that aren’t books. Items included everything from kitchen appliances and cooking supplies to baby gear and sewing machines. Many libraries are now offering movie and video game rentals.
