Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order after declaring a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The executive order outlined additional programs, financial assistance, and moratoriums on evictions and utility shutoffs. Some of the provisions are as follows:
- Water and utility shutoffs for homes and small businesses are suspended until at least April 2021.
- Individuals using Lifeline wireless for phone and internet service for low-income families do not have to go through the process to re-enroll until April 2021.
- The Franchise Tax Board has suspended collections on debts imposed by state and local governments including traffic violations and infractions and criminal and legal systems ended on July 15, 2020.
- A moratorium on evictions is in effect until 90 days after Newsom ends the state of emergency or until it is amended or repealed by the Judicial Council.
- Pandemic EBT benefits are available to all students who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals are eligible for food benefits up to $365.00 per child for food and groceries as a one-time benefit.
